Ep. 16 Katie & Tate Maurer: From Childhood Cancer to Supporting Others

The day after his 12th birthday, Tate Maurer was diagnosed with Stage 3 Burkitt Lymphoma. Surrounded by his family, Tate began his cancer journey, quickly learning the fight is as mental as it is physical. Katie Maurer, Tate’s mom, soon realized what she needed most in the months of Tate’s battle was to accept help instead of resisting it. Now cancer-free, Tate and Katie work to repay the generosity their family was given by their friends, family and community. The Maurers flipped their scripts and have spoken at numerous awareness events, and Tate has won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pennies for Patients organization by helping to raise $250,000 by speaking at schools. Through their conversation with Kristi, Katie and Tate share tangible ways you can support those around you and how the little things matter the most.
