Ep. 162 Yasmine Arrington Brooks: From Incarcerated Parents to Empowering Scholars

Yasmine Arrington Brooks was the child of incarcerated parents. When she started applying to colleges, she and her grandma quickly realized there was a lack of scholarships available for students in her situation.

Yasmine founded the nonprofit ScholarCHIPS to support college students whose parents are behind bars. ScholarCHIPS provides scholarships, mentorship and a peer support network to help students complete their college education. To date, ScholarCHIPS has awarded over half a million dollars in scholarships to 88 scholars and has supported 45 college graduates. Yasmine was named a Top 10 CNN Heroes finalist in 2023 for her work with ScholarCHIPS.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Yasmine shares her experience growing up as a child of incarcerated parents, the story of how ScholarCHIPS started and the inspiring stories from some of the scholars who are changing their life trajectory.
