Ep. 113 Desmond Blair: From Embracing Differences to Inspiring Others with Art

Born without fingers and hands, Desmond Blair spent much of his childhood learning how to find his own way of doing things. His mother and grandmother were his biggest supporters and refused to see this as a disability; instead, they encouraged him and viewed it as a difference and an opportunity for Desmond to experience life in a unique way.

At a young age, Desmond taught himself how to write with a pencil and how to use crayons with his wrists. His difference didn’t discourage him from pursuing his dream of being an artist. Demond’s first public exhibit was at the Pencil on Paper Gallery in Dallas. Now, he is working on starting his own business, Art Without Obstacles.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Desmond talks about how he is using art to overcome challenges and sharing some of the life lessons he’s learned along the way.

CHALLENGE FOR LISTENERS:

What limiting language do you have? Why do you have it? Try changing a word like "disability" to "difference" or changing “can't” to “can.” How would that change your life? How would that change the people around you? How will that change your mindset?
