Ep. 112 Andrew Barnes & Charlotte Lockhart: From 9-5 Mindset to Four-Day Workweek

Our current work week hasn’t always looked the way it does now. The concept of working Monday-Friday started in the 1920s. Back then, we moved from working six days a week to five. Now, Andrew Barnes and Charlotte Lockhart have started a movement to push for working just four days a week. The two founded a nonprofit organization, 4 Day Week Global, and are supporting businesses as they initiate their own four-day workweek.

Andrew started this work style at his New Zealand-based company, Perpetual Guardian, in 2018 and saw that it was very successful and had many positive effects. His team reported an increase in productivity and work-life balance, benefitting both the employees and employers. Andrew and Charlotte now advocate for the 100-80-100 model: 100% of the pay, 80% of the time, in exchange for 100% of the productivity.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Andrew and Charlotte talk about how the pandemic shifted work-life balance and how the four-day workweek increases productivity and decreases stress.

CHALLENGE FOR LISTENERS:

Think about something in your life that has always been done a certain way. Is there another way to do it that could lead to more productivity and better health and wellness?
