Ep. 133 Christy Warren: From Rescuing Others to Saving Herself

Christy Warren is a retired fire captain with 25 years of service as a professional paramedic. After being diagnosed with PTSD in 2014, she has become a triathlete, completed the Escape from Alcatraz swim five times and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Washington State University.

Christy is the author of Flash Point: A Firefighter's Journey Through PTSD. Her memoir shares her journey with PTSD and what it took to finally get the help she needed. She is also a volunteer peer at the West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat and hosts the podcast The Firefighter Deconstructed.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, with June 27th being National PTSD Awareness Day. The month is dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and reducing the stigma around it.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Christy shares how she was more comfortable running into a burning building than she was asking for help. Despite her struggles with PTSD, Christy's story is filled with hope and purpose.

Topics of PTSD and self-harm are discussed in this episode. Listener discretion is advised.
