Ep. 9 Angela Kennecke: From a Child’s Addiction to Hope & Healing

For 10 years, KELO TV news anchor and investigative reporter Angela Kennecke covered the opioid epidemic in South Dakota. She never expected she would be personally devastated by the crisis. Tragically, her daughter, Emily, died of a fentanyl overdose. Instead of grieving privately, Angela decided to share her story in hopes of saving other lives. In this poignant episode, Angela explains how she turned her pain into purpose to help end the stigma and shame around addiction and bring hope to those struggling with it.

CLOSING QUOTE

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -

That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -

And sore must be the storm -

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -

And on the strangest Sea -

Yet - never - in Extremity,

It asked a crumb - of me.
