Ep. 111 John Kriesel: From Near Death Experience to New Life Perspective

John Kriesel lost two of his best friends and both of his legs when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle on military patrol in Iraq. He remembers his life flashing before his eyes as he was lying on the sand, thinking he wouldn't survive. After countless surgeries and months of recovery, John was determined to make the most of his second chance at life.

The transition from military to civilian life was not easy, but John’s family and friends, positive attitude and sense of humor allowed him to become stronger than ever and recreate his personal and professional life.

John is a radio personality on KFAN, a popular motivational speaker, the author of “Still Standing: The Story of SSG John Kriesel,” the Director of Veterans Services for Anoka County in Minnesota and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. He is married and has a 3-year-old daughter.

John credits his large social media following to his openness and positivity, which sometimes takes a back seat on Sundays, when the Minnesota Vikings take the field.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with host Kristi Piehl, John vulnerably shares his story and uses humor to highlight how the lessons he learned on the battlefield are applicable for all of us.
