Ep. 118 Sharon McMahon: From High School Teacher to America's Government Teacher

Sharon McMahon may now be known as "America's Government Teacher," but her classroom of students hasn't always looked the way it does today. She spent years as a high school government and law teacher before taking her lessons to social media. Sharon noticed how misinformation was spreading online during the 2020 election and decided she needed to share her expertise.

With over a million social media followers, Sharon uses her Instagram, @sharonsaysso, and her podcast to battle political misinformation by sharing facts about the U.S. government and democracy. From her daily Q&As to summaries of national events, Sharon is determined to share fact-based, nonpartisan information so her audience can form their own educated opinions.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Sharon talks about how she went from teaching in the classroom to educating the entire country through social media.

CHALLENGE FOR LISTENERS:

Think about what you take in and really consider the impact of what you put out into the world. Before you post something or reshare, pause for a minute. Maybe it needs a fact check or a Google search, and if you don't have time for that, don't share it.
