Ep. 119 Eddie Swartzentruber: From Sheltered and Amish to Finding Freedom and Fame

Eddie Swartzentruber was raised in a conservative Amish community in Harmony, Minnesota. He grew up very sheltered, not knowing what electricity, a coffee maker or a light switch was. He was even taught that babies come out of the sky. It’s not an accident that Eddie grew up without history or science books or he would have had more questions than he already did.

On January 18, 2014, Eddie ran away from his home at age 17 in hopes of finding a better life. He’s now married, owns a commercial roofing company and uses social media to share about his former life and answer questions about the Amish. His videos have millions of views and often go viral on TikTok.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Eddie shares the challenges of growing up in an Amish community, what happened the day he left and how his life has changed today.
