Ep. 37 Madison Hamburg: From Film Student to HBO Director

In March 2010, Barbara Hamburg was murdered outside her Connecticut home. Despite a police investigation, no one was charged. As her family grieved, her son, Madison Hamburg, at the time an aspiring filmmaker and student, found the motivation to dig deep into his mother’s case. What started as a 10-minute film project for school quickly turned into a pursuit for the truth. Madison began looking for answers, asking the tough questions and interviewing his family, all while documenting the process and pulling at any loose thread that may lead to who murdered his mom. In November of 2020, Madison’s four-part docuseries “Murder on Middle Beach” premiered on HBO, captivating viewers with his unique twist on the true-crime genre and touching dedication to his mother. Flip Your Script host Kristi Piehl sat down with Madison to discuss his journey from film student to successful storyteller and how loss can be the inspiration to turn the page.
