Ep. 60 Shawntan Howell: From a Mother’s Mission to Empowerment Strategist

Shawntan Howell has a powerful presence. Standing 6’1” tall, she beams with positivity and confidence. But when her daughter started struggling with self-confidence, it brought back Shawntan's own experiences dealing with body image, bullying and racism. She knew she had to do something.
Shawntan made it her mission to help girls and young women realize just how powerful they are. She launched the nonprofit Girls Are Powerful to help young women own their power and embrace their individuality. Shawntan talks with Flip Your Script host Kristi Piehl about the joy that comes from believing in your power and the role each of us can play in creating a generation of confident, empowered women.
CLOSING QUOTE
“Do you know what happens when you decide to stop worrying about what other people might think of you? You get to dance. You get to sing. You get to laugh loudly, paint, write, and create. You get to be yourself. And you know what? Some people won’t like you. Some will laugh or mock or point out flaws… but it just won’t bother you all that much.”
