Kristi Piehl “Month of Moments” Sabbatical Update

After “Digging for a Decade,” Media Minefield rewards employees with a month-long, paid sabbatical to celebrate their 10th anniversary with the company. If you haven’t heard of the concept of a sabbatical before, the purpose is to recharge and spend time learning or traveling so that you can return to work with new ideas, perspectives and energy. During episode 20 of Flip Your Script, Kristi sat down with Sean McCabe, a sabbatical expert. As the first Media Minefield employee to participate in the sabbatical program, her conversation with Sean gave her some tips and tricks before beginning her sabbatical in mid-October. Kristi recently returned back to work after taking the month-long leave, what she called her “Month of Moments.” Her goal was to do something every day that she wouldn’t normally have the energy and brainpower to do. Have you ever run fast on a treadmill and then jumped off while the belt was still moving? That’s how Kristi described her sabbatical experience. Her “Month of Moments” was filled with learnings, like how being busy does not mean you are being productive and how growth always comes after leaning into and dealing with discomfort.
